  • To provide the streaming service — load radio stations and podcasts

  • To send push notifications — alerts about new stations, podcasts or app updates (you can disable these in system settings)
  • To improve app stability — anonymous crash reports and error logs via Firebase Crashlytics
  • To measure content popularity — anonymous listen counts per station/podcast to help us improve the content catalogue
  • To manage playback interruptions — the READ_PHONE_STATE permission is used solely to pause audio during phone calls and resume after
  • To ensure security — detect abuse or unusual activity based on IP and device ID

We do not use your data to build personal profiles, sell your data, or share it with parties unrelated to the app's functionality.

ads_click4. Advertising & Third-Party SDKs

The app is free and supported by advertising. We integrate third-party advertising and analytics SDKs that may collect your Advertising ID and technical device information for the purpose of showing relevant ads. These SDKs are governed by their own privacy policies.

tuneAdvertising ID & Opt-Out

Ad networks use the Google Advertising ID (GAID) to serve relevant ads. You can control this at any time:

  • Android 12 and below: Go to Settings → Google → Ads → Opt out of Ads Personalisation
  • Android 13+: Go to Settings → Privacy → Ads → Delete advertising ID
  • You can also reset your Advertising ID at any time from the same menu

If you reside in the European Economic Area (EEA), UK or Switzerland, the app displays a GDPR consent prompt on first launch (powered by Google UMP SDK). You can choose which ad networks are allowed to use your Advertising ID for personalised advertising. Without consent, only non-personalised ads will be shown.

notifications5. Push Notifications

The app may send push notifications to inform you about new radio stations, podcasts or app updates. To do this, we use:

  • Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) — provided by Google
  • OneSignal — a third-party notification platform

When the app registers for push notifications, a push token (a random identifier assigned by FCM or OneSignal) is stored on our server. This token is not linked to your personal identity.

To disable push notifications: Go to your Android system settings → Apps → World Radio FM & Podcast → Notifications, and turn off notifications.

storage6. Local Storage on Your Device

The app stores the following data locally on your device only — this data never leaves your device and is never sent to our servers:

  • Favourite radio stations and podcasts — content you mark as favourites
  • Recorded audio files — audio recordings you create using the in-app recording feature, saved to your device storage
  • App theme preference — light or dark mode setting
  • Equalizer settings — your custom audio equalizer profile
  • Alarm and sleep timer settings — any scheduled timers or alarms you set
  • App configuration — server URL and API configuration (no personal data)
  • Ad consent status — your GDPR advertising consent choices

This data is stored in the app's private storage and is deleted when you uninstall the app.

share7. Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal data. We may share limited technical data only in the following circumstances:

  • With advertising SDK partners — Advertising ID and device info shared with Google AdMob and AppLovin MAX, solely for ad delivery purposes
  • With Firebase / Google — anonymous crash reports and push notification tokens
  • With OneSignal — push notification tokens for notification delivery
  • With law enforcement — only when legally required by a court order or applicable law
  • In a business transfer — if the app or its developer is acquired or merged, your data would be transferred with appropriate privacy protections

All third-party SDKs integrated in the app have their own privacy policies (linked in Section 4). We encourage you to review them.

schedule8. Data Retention

We retain technical data for the following periods:

Data TypeRetention Period
Server access logs (IP, device info, listening activity)48 hours by default (configurable by admin — never exceeds 30 days)
Listen count statisticsIndefinitely (anonymous aggregate data only — not linked to a device)
Push notification tokensUntil the app is uninstalled or the token is renewed
Local app data (favourites, settings, recordings)Until you uninstall the app or clear app data

Anonymous aggregate statistics (total listens per station or podcast) are retained indefinitely as they contain no personal information.

security9. Security

We implement appropriate technical measures to protect the data we process:

  • Encrypted API communication — all data exchanged between the app and our servers is encrypted using AES-256-CBC encryption and transmitted over HTTPS/TLS
  • Anonymous device identifiers — device IDs are hashed (MD5) before storage and never linked to personal identity
  • Minimal data collection — we follow the principle of data minimisation, collecting only what is strictly necessary
  • No passwords stored — the app does not handle user credentials
  • Local recordings protected — audio files recorded via the app are saved to your device's private storage and are never uploaded or shared

While we strive to protect your data, no transmission over the Internet is 100% secure. If you have security concerns, please contact us.

language10. International Data Transfers

Our servers are located in the European Union / United States. Some third-party SDKs (such as Google and AppLovin) may process data in the United States or other countries.

For users in the European Economic Area (EEA): data transfers to third countries are made under appropriate safeguards, including Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) as approved by the European Commission. The SCCs can be provided on request.

By using the app, you acknowledge that your technical data may be processed in countries outside your country of residence.
